1. Max Tundra - “Video Games” (Lana Del Rey cover)

It sounds exactly like the original, but I like this cover a lot more. I can’t put my finger on what bugs me about the original. Maybe it’s because with Del Rey, I feel like I’m being sold some new test-marketed flavour of Pringles? It tastes fine, but is that what I really need? I dunno. It doesn’t help that I’m just not a ballad dude.

But stripped of the original context, it becomes some old standard that people play on their keyboards to kill some time. On Youtube, Max Tundra writes, “Whilst waiting for some files to render, I thought I’d have a go at everyone’s favourite hollywood sadcore song.” I guess its value for me is that it is a way of filling up a quiet room with a feeling of faded, overstuffed glamour, rather than anything I like about its exact sentiment, or the personality of Del Rey.

Tundra goes on to say, “Some beautiful birdies flew past in an earlier take, but there were wrong notes, so you’ll just have to fly your own birds in front of the screen.”
